Texts

Boilerplate (kurz)

Quodemos is a free app with short episodes to swipe: how democracies fell and where they held. No account, no ads, every card with its source.

Boilerplate (mittel)

In 58 short episodes to swipe, Quodemos shows how democracies were dismantled from within and where people held them: Berlin 1933, Madrid 1981, Leipzig 1989, Seoul 2024. Fictional characters take you to real places, you guess what happens next and see what really happened, with the source on every card. 13 warning signs show mechanisms, not parties. Quodemos is free, with no ads and no account, in English and German, in the browser and as an app.

Boilerplate (lang)

Today, democracies are rarely lost in a coup. Usually it happens step by step and legally, often with the consent of many who take each step for normal politics. Quodemos makes these steps visible without preaching. The series follows research, the warning signs described by Levitsky and Ziblatt and the trajectories traced by the V-Dem Institute, and gives just as much room to the cases in which democracies fought back or returned. 58 episodes in three pillars (Fallen, Myths, Held) and 13 short episodes on the warning signs, each 4 to 23 minutes long, narrated in English and German. Fictional characters live through real moments; original quotes are given word for word, recreated scenes are labelled, and every card names its source: V-Dem and BTI, court rulings, parliamentary minutes, law gazettes and research. Quodemos follows the Beutelsbach Consensus, is not a campaign tool and takes no party’s side. The app is free for good, with no ads, no account, no tracking cookies and no profiles; progress stays on the device. Quodemos is a series by Momentlume, developed and funded by Teachlume GmbH in Berlin.

How to show Quodemos

Do

  • Call Quodemos by its name and link quodemos.app.
  • Explain mechanisms: what happened, who stopped it, which source shows it.
  • Only show numbers with their source; it is on every card and in the fact sheet.
  • Use characters, logo and images as they are in the kit.
  • Mark your own opinion as your own. Leave contested points contested.
  • Turn captions on or use the version with burned-in subtitles.

Please don’t

  • No present-day party or person as an example of a warning sign. Comparing is not equating.
  • No party colours, flags or symbols, not even as a background.
  • Do not crop, distort, recolour or place the characters in new scenes; no AI variations of the characters.
  • Do not present the characters as real people. They are fictional.
  • Do not present Quodemos as a campaign for or against anyone, and do not combine it with donation appeals.
  • Do not alter or rotate the logo, no colours other than those in the kit.

Quodemos follows the Beutelsbach Consensus: do not overwhelm, present contested issues as contested, offer ways to act rather than demand them.

Terms of use

  • You may use all files in this kit free of charge to report on or recommend Quodemos: in posts, videos, streams, in class, in presentations and in the press.
  • Please credit Quodemos, for example “Image: Quodemos (Momentlume)”, and link quodemos.app where possible.
  • Cropping, scaling and placing the files in your own layouts are allowed. The characters and the logo stay unchanged: do not cut them off, distort, recolour, merge them with other images or regenerate them.
  • Not allowed: use in advertising for parties, candidates or campaigns, in donation appeals, in any context that equates a present-day party with a warning sign, and reselling the files.
  • The screenshots show the app on the day they were taken; its content may change.
  • Disclosure: we pay nothing and give nothing. Recommending Quodemos without anything in return is usually not advertising under the German media authorities’ guidance. If you receive anything for a post, from us or from third parties, label it as an ad (“Werbung” or “Anzeige” in Germany). When in doubt, be transparent: “unpaid recommendation”.
